"For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, and all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up,” says the LORD of hosts, “That will leave them neither root nor branch" (Malachi 4:1). "His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire” (Matthew 3:12). All that is wicked is to be consumed by fire, consumed wholly leaving neither root nor branch. "But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8). There is a lake of fire that burns – we are told that death and hell (the grave, also compared to the place where they burned the trash outside of Jerusalem) will be cast into the fire – the wicked die a second death that has no power over the righteous in Christ. That which is eternal remains eternal in the fire, but that which is flesh is consumed – that which grew up out of the earth – God created man from the dust of the earth. It is an all consuming fire.
Satan is winning away our young with a promise that they can live forever with him. He uses church doctrine to prove that point. It is the same thing he told Eve in the garden, “You shall not surely die.” Satan has always told people that in the day that they sin they will become like God – what he was really saying is that in the day that they sin they will become like one who tried to sit his throne above the throne of God – to be like Satan, their god. Satan cannot give eternal life. Satan came only to steal, kill, and destroy. God did not promise eternal life for sin, God said, “You shall surely die.”
The second death has no power over those in Christ – Jesus died once so that the second death would have no power over those raised up in Him. “If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned” (John 15:6). “Throw in the fire” would have been enough to say if they were to burn forever; but “they are burned” and pass away. "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4). That which still lives is not passed away, but those that die the second death have passed away. The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever (Revelation 20:10). There is a fire that burns, all that is eternal remains eternal in the fire, all that is mortal is burned up – consumed. Those that reject God and follow Satan’s lie will not dwell with their god for ever, they shall surely die.
If the scriptures tell us two things, both are true. Jesus is the end of the curse of the law for those that believe; but if you want to remained cursed you can choose to not believe. “If anyone does not abide in Me” they are still cursed with the penalty of death; and they will surely die – “they are burned.” If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love (John 15:7-9). Those that abide in Christ Jesus live. The good news is that we can bear the fruit of love, as Jesus did, and reach out to those that do not abide in Christ with an invitation. Tell them the truth, “Satan is a liar and you will not spend eternity with him. The only way to be sure that you will have an eternity is to abide in Jesus the Christ.”
